Tips for cleaning and maintaining weather resistant materials
Our modern patio and outdoor furniture come in several different weather resistant materials. We offer outdoor day beds, dining sets and various lounge options. Here are some useful cleaning tips for different types of weather resistant outdoor furniture.
METAL
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED
1) garden hose 2) car wash detergent OR soap 3) brush with soft bristles 4) lint-free cloth 5) car wax
- Rinse metal with your garden hose set on the high-pressure option - Create a cleaning solution by mixing a car wash detergent, or soap, with water - Use a brush with soft bristles to scrub the tables, chairs or benches and rinse with lukewarm water - Using a lint-free cloth, apply a thin coating of car wax if your patio furniture has an enamel finish or is made of cast iron
VINYL & PLASTIC
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED
1) mild detergent OR soap 2) soft cloth OR sponge OR brush with soft bristles 3) ammonia
- Use only mild detergents or soaps to avoid having dry furniture surfaces - Use a soft cloth, sponge or a brush with soft bristles - Remove any stains or mildew by blotting a small amount of ammonia on the affected area
WICKER
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED
1) broom OR vacuum with brush attachment OR brush with soft bristles 2) mild dishwashing soap 3) soft cloth OR sponge OR brush with soft bristles 4) soft cloth for drying
- Remove dust and dirt with a broom, vacuum with brush attachments or a dry soft bristle brush. - Create a cleaning solution by mixing a mild dishwashing liquid soap with water - Get a sponge, cloth, or a brush with soft bristles to scrub the wicker gently and rinse - Dry the furniture with a soft cloth to prevent moisture from remaining inside the wicker material
WOOD
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED
1) oxygen bleach 2) soft cloth OR brush with soft bristles
- Use a mixture of oxygen bleach and water to clean outdoor wooden tables and chairs - Apply mixture using a soft cloth or a brush with soft bristles - For extra protection against the elements, sand and reseal the wooden furniture when dry
