Care for Lacquer
A lacquer finish makes furniture look more glossy and beautiful, with endless color possibilities including white, black, red and more. Although lacquer may be a durable finish, it is vulnerable to chips, scratches and wear. The proper manner of cleaning your modern and contemporary lacquer furniture will keep it looking new and glossy, but you must realize that cleaning it is not similar to the manner of cleaning other furniture finish.
The following are a few general tips to help you maintain the lacquer finish of your pieces:

- Keep your Furniture Dry
- Use a protective tool. For instance, cover your lacquer finish coffee table with a table runner to protect it from spills
- Always wipe spills immediately *Lacquer is easily damaged with water and if you do not take heed of this warning, you will end up with lackluster and cracked furniture
- Avoid putting heavy items on its top. It would be wise to use a rubber mat or feet under the decorative piece. This will prevent the lacquer finish from getting scratched because of the item
- Observe Regular Dusting. Regular dusting will prevent dust accumulating, which can be difficult to remove in the end and can destroy the finish. Use a soft clean cloth or feather duster to clean it
General Cleaning Tips for Lacquer Furniture
Use a Clean Mild Soap
- Put a teaspoon of soap to one-half gallon of warm water
- Dip a clean cloth and wring out excess water
- Ensure that the cloth is damp but not wet
- Use down strokes when wiping the furniture. Do not use circular movements
- Avoid a cleaning product that contains ammonia or bleach
- Dry the furniture with a soft dry cloth. Make certain you use a soft fabric without any harmful materials to avoid damaging the lacquer finish of your furniture
