An inlay uses materials including wood, metal, stones, and recently diamonds to create embellishments. Inlay techniques make use of contrasting and colorful materials placed into depressions to produce decorative pieces. Wood, metal, ivory, camel bone, and pearls are materials used for the art of inlay. Inlaying is most common in the production of decorative furniture. In France, the famous cabinet-maker Andre-Charles Boule (1624-1732) developed the Boulle Work for inlaying furniture using metal.
